I got a call today from a friend of mine. It seems her nutty cousin just up and left Tennessee and headed out to California with no warning. Thanks to her past use of Ecstasy, her serotonin production is shot. She's also delusional, and in need of medication.
So, she comes out here, in possession of a gun she brought from TN "for protection." She's living in her car near Disneyland and winds up shooting herself in the neck. She gets out of the hospital and into legal trouble due to her mental illness. She winds up at a mental health facility which, despite family pleas to hold her, releases her onto the street. She winds up at my friend's house, becoming more and more delusional, until the rape fantasies involving my friend's husband kick in. Let's see...then she leaves the house, driving to some concert which she misses by a few hundred miles. On the road, she sees some limousine and God tells her it is a rock star who is her soulmate, so she RAMS THE LIMO with her Honda!!! The chauffeur calls 911 and she's arrested and put into a mental ward, after telling the cop God told her to do this.
(are you listening, Alex? Cuz she's in touch with her spiritual side!)
My friend's sister goes online, trying to find a treatment center which will help her. She finds one and tells my friend all about it. They called back right away, seem very interested in the girl, and...they keep calling back, asking when she'll be released from the mental ward. Sister tells my friend the name of the joint; it's in Newport Beach. My friend says, "Is that spelled with an A or an O?"
It's spelled with an O...that's NarcOnon!
Well, this girl hasn't got the sense God gave seafood, but she certainly doesn't deserve NarcOnon!
My friend has met Tory, and I've given her lots of information. She has enjoyed Scientology's attempts to harrass and intimidate me. She can see behind the mask.
She gave her sister the big 411 on the Narconon front group; how it's educational program was expelled from schools in Cali, Hawaii and Boston, how graduates seem to mostly wind up as Scientologists, how they drink cooking oil and toxic doses of niacin and other vitamins, etc. And, the money. How much it costs and will continue to cost.
Long story ended, the girl's brother flew out to collect her and her car, drove back to Tennessee, and put her in a rehab place with real doctors, genuinely qualified counsellors, and an uninflated recovery rate.
That's one less potential vic snatched away from DM's grubby little sticky paws. And I helped...you never know the outcome of talking to a stranger on a train...
I'll take this Big Win.

Over the years I have heard from several parents who "bought" the NarCONon debacle for a loved one. One mother wrote that it took nearly a year to un-do the damage done by the cult. She felt the program was mainly an indoctrination into the evil organization $cientology. Each person that contacted me had to seek further help. The one success I heard about was from a parent here in Hemet. The dad used to do electrical work and I had him install a ceiling fan. During the conversation he told me his son had been cured by NarCONon. He also told me of this fabulous salary he was making. I asked him did he think his son had joined the cult? He said "oh no he didn't join" I said "Does he come often to see you and his mother? He said " No he doesn't have a "working" car so he doesn't come." With this fabulous sum of money he was making each week-- why a broken down car? I didn't discuss it further but did remain curious . "Courses" are expensive.
