The NCHRA applauds Hal Mansfield, the founder and director of the Religious Movement Resource Center in Fort Collins. Mr. Mansfield was the year 2005 winner of the Human Relations Award - Adult Category, presented to him by the city of Fort Collins. In August of 2005 Mr. Mansfield was also recognized as Volunteer of the Month by FirstCall211 (a community resource information and referral non-profit organization), which cited his having handled 756 telephone calls concerning destructive cults and hate groups in the year 2004. Mr. Mansfield also gives presentations and workshops to education organizations regarding destructive cults and hate groups. Mr. Mansfield is retired from the United States Air Force, where he was a director of operations of counter narcotics, was a military advisoe country of Slovenia, and spent time in over 30 countries.
"Mr. Mansfield has tackled a job very few people would do for pay, but he does it for free. The job Hal does takes not only compassion and empathy for victims and their family members who have been harmed by a destructive cult or hate group: it also takes courage," said David Rice, President of the NCHRA. "We applaud his work and his courage, and wish him success in his work."
The Religious Movement Resource Center contains the largest library in the mid-west containing books, texts, tapes, and manuscripts regarding hate groups and cults. Some of the hate groups Mr. Mansfield offers information about include Scientology, National Alliance, and the Christian Identity movement.
