Sailing Vessel Myste Repairs

Self-bailing system The 'self-bailing' system. I had to replace the two aft gate vavles with ball valves because the gate valves broke off. This system is plumbed to drain from holes just forward of the propeller: the theory is that the propeller sucks water out of the scuppers and cockpit. Unfortunately, when the engine is in reverse, the cockpit floods with sea water!

Scuppers should drain above the waterline, not below it: a bad design.

Myste Myste with her 'windows' removed, and the salon housing sanded. This is just before she gets painted.
Myste Close look at the housing--- the wood is too badly stained and worn to varnish, so I'll have to paint it.
Myste Myste as of August 19, 2000. When this picture was taken, I had 35 days days left to get her ship-shape.
Myste painted number 1 Here is a image of Myste with her new paint on and windows back in place. The top coat is 'eggshell white' and the sides are 'Bristol beige.'
Myste painted number 2 Another picture of Myste after her paint job. There is a thick undercoat of 'fire red' under the 'Bristol beige' due to my first trying one color (red) and not liking how it looked.
