18 days ago I was running down Camelback Mountain in Phoenix and stepped on a rock the wrong way. I heard a snapping sound as my ankle twisted outward. There was pain. Fortunately, I was most of the way down, so I hobbled to my car and drove home. When I got home my outside ankle looked like somebody had stuck a golf ball under the skin there.
So anyway, not wanting to waste such a wonderous thing, I kept a record of my day to day healing. On the 4th day a bluish bruise showed up on the outside edge and the inside of my foot. Wow, cool, a rainbow foot! I took a picture, then decided that on the 17th day I'd see what the bruise was like. Lisa McPherson had a huge bruise on her thigh when she died that Scientology claims came from a bump in her car accident 17 days before she died. This bruise looks horrible (http://www.parishioner.org/agree.html, 7th photo down) and not that old to me.
After 18 days my bruise is about 60% gone, and the yellowish tinge around it has gone away as well. It doesn't hurt at all. So comparing my bruise after about the same time as Lisa's, I don't think hers was 17 days old. I think it was more recent. Of course, I'm not a doctor or anything, I'm just a guy trying to make use of a bad situation :)
And btw, that bruise on Lisa's leg must have been from a really bad fall or something, because my much smaller bruise came from a very bad twisted ankle that's gonna keep me hobbling for a few more weeks probably.
I'll try to put up a couple of pics later.
Excellent post, Jeff.
I don't remember the paramedics that Lisa talked to at the scene of the traffic accident saying anything about her limping or having any obvious tenderness. Do you?
I guess I'll just have to go back and reread the interview with Bonnie Portolano:
(Geez. I can't believe I can't find a good version of that outside of Google Groups. I guess I have a LOT of work to do on my collection of Lisa files.)
I'm glad your ankle is feeling better. The ability of the human body to heal itself is an amazing thing.
with a hug, and best wishes for a wonderful 2003,

I think $cientology is hurting people and breaking the law, and I want them to stop it. See http://www.scientology-lies.com for more.

I would imagine! I'm presuming you knew it had not been broken...? Whatever.

I'm not a doctor either. I'm guessing, though, that her progressive state of dehydration probably slowed the healing process and may have contributed to her bruise looking so dark. Also, from what I've seen on "Forensic Files" (for our non-USA readers, it's a "true crime" sort of television show on the Court TV channel here in the US), bruises are generally a lot darker and more noticeable post-mortem. Something to do with body fluids settling and such... Apparently, sometimes even killing injuries cannot be easily seen on freshly dead people. The medical examiners have to wait for a day or so.
At any rate... Heal quickly! (Heh..maybe you can find someone to do a "touch assist" on you...)
